MAXIMILIAN KOLBE IN AUSCHWITZ
Maximilian Kolbe was sent to Auschwitz and was given the prisoner number of 16670.
At Auschwitz, the prisoners were treated poorly and were only given enough food to stay alive. Maximilian was generous enough to give some of his food away to other prisoners.
Maximilian would often go around the block and ask other prisoners if they needed anything and many of the prisoners would come to Maximilian to confess their sins and ask for forgiveness.
Maximilian once waited until all of the others in his block were treated by the doctors before himself. He constantly thought of others more than himself.
In July of 1941, a man escaped from Maximilian Kolbe's block. The rule was that if someone escaped, ten men would have to be killed. On 14 August, 1941, ten people were selected, including a man with a a wife and children. Maximilian heard him and offered to sacrifice himself instead of the called man. He was looked in a bunker and left to starve with the other nine men.
After two weeks, Maximilian Kolbe was the only man remaining. So, the guards gave him a lethal injection of carbolic acid, which killed him in a short amount of time.
